About me / O meni
My name is Boris Pecigoš. I was born in 1974 in Zagreb, Croatia. I live and work in Rijeka, on the border where the sea and the mountains meet. They are my inexhaustible connection to the Source. In the artistic creativity, as well as in everything else I do, I am inspirited and inspired by powerful and beautiful nature, gentle and meditative music, profound and emotional poetry, mystical and zen spirituality.
I graduated at Arthouse – College of Visual Arts [link] in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and earned Bachelor of Arts degree (BA).
I am a member of HDLU Zagreb (Hrvatsko društvo likovnih umjetnika Zagreb / Croatian Association of Visual Artists Zagreb) [link].
I am the founder and head of Atelier Hayat.
Osnivač sam i voditelj udruge Atelier Hayat.

Citations by famous artists as my statement which describes my approach to artistic creation
“The invention of photography had released painting from the need to copy nature leaving the artist free to present emotion as directly as possible and by the simplest means”
“Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colors, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential.”
“Colours on the painter’s palette evoke a double effect: a purely physical effect on the eye which is charmed by the beauty of colours, similar to the joyful impression when we eat a delicacy. This effect can be much deeper, however, causing a vibration of the soul or an “inner resonance” – a spiritual effect in which the colour touches the soul itself.”
“The true work of art is born from the ‘artist’: a mysterious, enigmatic, and mystical creation. It detaches itself from him, it acquires an autonomous life, becomes a personality, an independent subject, animated with a spiritual breath, the living subject of a real existence of being.”
“The modern artist is working with space and time, and expressing his feelings rather than illustrating.”
“I don’t work from drawings. I don’t make sketches and drawings and colour sketches into a final painting.”
“Today painters do not have to go to a subject matter outside of themselves. Most modern painters work from a different source. They work from within.”
“I don’t listen to what art critics say. I don’t know anybody who needs a critic to find out what art is.”
